Strain: Tahoe OG
Type: Hybrid
Dispensary: KindPeoples, Santa Cruz
I recently visited Santa Cruz for the first time. As you can probably guess, I took some time to visit a few dispensaries to see what flavors the city has to offer, and I wasn’t disappointed.
Check out the full Tahoe OG strain review below.
BAG APPEAL (4 out of 5)
The small, dense Tahoe OG nugs are caked in trichomes and covered in short red stigmas, exhibiting all the great traits of a classic OG. Under the microscope I see large trichomes – mostly clear – standing healthy and tall, just waiting to be combusted and inhaled into my lungs. 🙂
SMELL (4 out of 5)
This Tahoe OG smells like straight skunk and cheese mixed with hints of earthy pine – very reminiscent of Chemdawg. When I pinch the buds between my fingers a soft licorice-like smell emerges from the funk, really delicious.
While I love the nose on this strain, this batch was a little on the weaker side when it came to the strength of the funk coming through. I don’t know about you, but I want to stink up the block with a nug in my pocket.
TASTE (3.5 out of 5)
Water-filtered pieces ended up being my preferred method of smoking this Tahoe OG. The exhale initially leaves soft flavors of gas, spice and an earthiness similar to wood. That is followed by a bit of a harsh taste on my throat and slight numbing of my lips/tongue, indicating to me that this bud could have been flushed longer – the dark ashes on joints further proved this point.
Ashes: Dark grey, speckles of white (not ideal)
OVERALL (3.5 out of 5)
Tahoe OG is a delicious phenotype of OG Kush and one that I always check out when I see it on a menu. This batch started out with promise, dripping in trichomes and giving off the classic OG funk, but sadly fell short on the flavor test – which as you guys know, is the most important test for me. Some of the experience was salvaged by the classic heavy-hitting OG stone (my head is in the clouds as I type this haha).
